    The Truth Project

    Monday, November 23rd, 2009

15444_207607657036_514287036_4653605_5603725_nThis past Friday the Aletheia community participated in the “Truth Project”. Jennifer Ling, a freshman  art student at VCU, who attends Aletheia dreamed the project into existence. Her desire was to create an interactive forum where people could confess a lie they have told or a lie told to them. She created a FACEBOOK group where people could submit their lies. This is how Jennifer described the purpose of the project:

By acknowledging something as a lie we acknowledge two things: We acknowledge that what was said was false and that we, like everyone else, have lied and been lied too. We are not so different from one another in that we have all been deceived.

The reality is that lies do damage, and though the repercussions may not be visible all the time. we have all felt them at some point. Lies have ruined relationships, destroyed families, hurt self-esteems, and left people confused and hungry for solid truth.

The Truth Project is an effort to establish the reality of truth’s existence, and create a forum to talk about it. By exposing a lie we have told or been told, we also establish that there was a truth to tell and that we have fallen short of it. We believe truth is something to be pursued and honored in a world full of deception and its consequences.

15444_207606762036_514287036_4653584_7325181_nShe then constructed an eight foot pillar and displayed the submitted lies on the Compass at VCU. Onlookers where invited to add to the lies that have been told. Jennifer invited Aletheia to dialogue with those who participated about the “Truth” as revealed through the person and work of Jesus. Her creativity open door of believer to freely share the message of Christ to the VCU campus. Those who participated had story after story of conversations about Jesus and huge opportunities to minister the loving truth found in Christ. 15444_207608297036_514287036_4653621_4130576_nJennifer will be posting a video of the event in the coming weeks. I would like to thank Jennifer for her creative, love of Jesus, and desire for the gospel to be displayed in both word and deed.

I  would also really like to encourage the entire Aletheia Community to begin thinking of creative ways to engage our campus and city for the fame of Jesus. We would love to partner with you in any way possible to see your dream become a reality.
